A total of 292 players have been picked to go under the hammer at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2021, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday (February 11).
1,114 players had initially registered for the auction, but it was cut down after the eight franchises submitted their shortlist of players.
The IPL player auction is scheduled to be held on February 18 in Chennai. BCCI said that the auction will start at 15:00 IST.
INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price and two Indian players (Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Jadhav) and eight overseas players (Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, Mark Wood) have chosen to be slotted in the highest bracket.
12 players are included in the base price of INR 1.5 crore category, and 11 players are included in the base price of INR 1 crore category.
The tournament organizers stated that 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations are included in the player auction list.
Before the auction, 139 players were retained by the eight teams while 57 players were released from their squads.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians released 7 players, including Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga.
31 Sri Lankan players were registered for the auction, but only 9 players have been shortlisted for the auction.
