India captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday (25).
“He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team. An RT-PCR test will be conducted on Sunday to ascertain his CT value.” a BCCI release on Saturday said.
The Indian team is currently playing a four-day tour game against Leicestershire, and Sharma was also involved in that match.
He scored 25 in the first innings but did not return to bat in the second innings.
The Indian Test team has already lost the services of opener KL Rahul due to an injury.
The Indian team toured England last year for a five-match Test series. However, only four test matches were able to take place due to the effects of the Covid 19.
India are 2-1 up at the end of four matches, with the final Test set to begin on July 1 in Birmingham.
With Sharma down with Covid 19 and vice-captain Rahul being ruled due to injury, the final Test could be fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s first as an Indian Test captain.
