Sri Lanka was able to record a great victory by 5 wickets against Bangladesh from their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup under the Super 12 round today (24).
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanka won the toss & elected to Field in Sharjah.
Accordingly Bangladesh scored 171 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Liton Das and Mohammad Naim put on a 40-run stand for the opening wicket.
Lahiru Kumara dismissed opener Liton Das for 16 and then there was a heated exchange of words between the two.
Other players and umpires also had to intervene to control the situation.
Shakib Al Hasan scored only 10 runs. Then Mohammad Naim and Mushfiqur Rahim put on 73 runs for the third wicket in 51 balls.
Naim scored 62 off 52 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim scored an unbeaten 57 off 37 balls. His innings included two sixes and five fours.
Afif Hossain was dismissed for 7 while Mahmudullah was unbeaten on 10 runs.
Chamika Karunaratne, Lahiru Kumara and Binura Fernando shared one wicket each in bowling.
In reply Sri Lanka chased down the target by 5 wickets at the end of 18.5 overs.
Opening batsman Kusal Perera was dismissed for 1 run.
Later Pathum Nissanka (24) and Charith Asalanka put on 69 (45) for the second wicket.
Later in the same over, Avishka Fernando was dismissed for no runs. Wanidu Hasaranga was dismissed for 6 runs.
Then Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Charith Asalanka put on 86 (52) for the fifth wicket.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa who is celebrating his birthday today scored a quick 53 off 31 balls. That is with 3 sixes and 3 fours.
Charith Asalanka was unbeaten on 80 off 49 balls. His innings was colorful with five sixes and five fours.
The drop of two catches of Bhanuka and Asalanka by Liton Das also had a big impact on the match.
