Sydney, Jan 5 – Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the field has added to India’s woes as Australia chases a modest target of 162 runs to clinch the Test series 3-1 and secure a spot in the World Test Championship final.
Bumrah, who was the last Indian batter dismissed for a duck in the second innings, was not present at the start of Australia’s 2nd innings chase.
The pacer had experienced back spasms on day two and was sent for scans, raising doubts over his ability to bowl in this crucial phase of the match.
Despite his discomfort, India’s stand-in captain showed resilience by coming out to bat on day three. However, his absence with the ball could severely impact India’s chances of defending the small target.
With the series on the line, India’s bowling attack will face an uphill task without their pace spearhead.
India began day three at 141 for 6 and was bowled out for 157, leaving Australia with 162 runs to chase. The Australian camp will be confident of wrapping up the match and sealing the series, but India’s bowlers will need to dig deep to pull off a dramatic turnaround.
