England has announced its squads for next month’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, scheduled for February.
The same 15-member ODI squad selected for the India tour will also represent England in the Champions Trophy, while a separate 15-player squad has been named for the T20I series.
The upcoming tour of India marks England’s first white-ball assignment under Brendon McCullum, who has now taken over as head coach of both the red-ball and white-ball teams.
The India tour will include three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Joe Root Returns to ODI Setup
A notable inclusion in the ODI squad is former captain Joe Root, who has earned a recall for the first time since England’s disappointing ODI World Cup campaign in November 2023.
Root’s experience and stability are expected to bolster England’s middle order as they prepare for the Champions Trophy.
Ben Stokes Ruled Out
Star all-rounder Ben Stokes has not been considered for selection as he continues to recover from a left hamstring injury sustained during England’s third Test match against New Zealand.
Stokes’ absence will be a significant blow to the team, particularly with his proven track record in high-pressure games.
England’s tour party is set to depart on January 17, 2025.
