The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that a Special General Meeting (SGM) will be held on January 12 in Mumbai to elect a new secretary and treasurer.
The meeting has been convened following the resignations of incumbent secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Ashish Shelar.
Jay Shah stepped down from his role as BCCI secretary after being elected as the Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to ICC regulations, the Chairperson cannot maintain any formal association with a member board, necessitating Shah’s resignation from his BCCI position.
Similarly, Ashish Shelar resigned as BCCI treasurer after joining the new Maharashtra Government.
The BCCI constitution bars any minister from serving as an office-bearer, making Shelar’s continuation in the role untenable.
As the richest and most powerful cricketing body in the world, the election of new office-bearers in the BCCI will be closely watched by stakeholders and fans alike.
