Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has announced the Sri Lanka men’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka between August 30 and September 17, 2023.
Dasun Shanaka will lead the 15-member squad and Kusal Mendis will be the vice captain.
“Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara, who were selected in the original squad, will not take part owing to ‘injuries.” a SLC release on Tuesday said.
“Kusal Janith Perera is recovering from a “flu’, which he suffered, and will join the squad once fully recovered”
The tournament, which will be played in fifty-overs format, will kick off in Multan with Pakistan taking on Nepal on August 30. The final is scheduled in Colombo (R. Premadasa Stadium) on September 17.
Co-host Sri Lanka will open its Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Kandy on August 31.
The 16th edition of the tournament has six teams divided into two groups. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A while Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
