The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the Afghanistan men’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka between August 30 and September 17, 2023.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the 17-member squad.
Allrounder Karim Janat, who last played an ODI for Afghanistan 6 years ago has been recalled to the ODI squad.
Sharafuddin Ashraf also makes a comeback into the side for the first time since January 2022.
Wafadar Momand, Azmatullah Omarzai and Shahidullah missed the cut for the Asia Cup.
The tournament, which will be played in fifty-overs format, will kick off in Multan with Pakistan taking on Nepal on August 30. The final is scheduled in Colombo (R. Premadasa Stadium) on September 17.
The 16th edition of the tournament has six teams divided into two groups. Pakistan, India and Nepal are in Group A while Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in Group B.
Afghanistan will open its Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on September 3 in Lahore.
