Gujarat Titans have named Sri Lanka’s captain Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for injured Kane Williamson for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Williamson suffered an injury to his right leg while fielding in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Shanaka was on fire in the recent T20I in India, smashing 124 runs in three innings at a S/R of 187 while averaging 62.00.
Signed for his base price of INR 50 lakh, this will be Dasun Shanaka’s maiden season in IPL.
Currently, the Sri Lankan team is playing a T20I series against New Zealand, and Shanaka will join the IPL after the tour ends on April 8.
Besides him, Sri Lankan players like Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana are also playing in this year’s IPL.
