Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of Saturday’s ODI against Sri Lanka due to a right hamstring injury, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced on Thursday (23).
“The Aces paceman underwent a fitness test at training today which confirmed he would be unfit to play. A replacement will be confirmed early tomorrow.” NZC said in an official release.
Lockie Ferguson was named only for the first ODI against Sri Lanka, and after the 1st match he was supposed to leave the squad (with Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips) and travel to India for participating in the Indian Premier League.
ODI Squad regulars Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings), Mitchell Santner (Chennai Super Kings) and Michael Bracewell (RCB) were also released early to the IPL at the request of their franchises.
The ODI series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on March 25 in Auckland, and the second and third ODIs will be played on March 28 (Christchurch) and 31 (Hamilton).
